Paedophile Neil Thompson Jailed for Historic Child Sexual Abuse

suing council for negligence

Neil Thompson, 59, from Medomsley in County Durham, has been jailed for eight and a half years after being found guilty of nine offences of child sexual abuse.

The paedophile denied committing heinous child sexual abuse crimes, however, he was found guilty by nine jurors at Newcastle Crown Court.

Neil Thompson told his victim that if she were to report the sexual abuse, she would not be believed. The victim told the court about the “horrible secret” she had been keeping for years.

To come to terms with the child sexual abuse she experienced, Neil Thompson’s victim underwent years of counselling. She told the court her abuser had “stole” her happiness and childhood and that her younger self had her life “taken away” by the paedophile.

Judge Spragg remarked on the victim’s “enormous courage” for coming forward so many years to seek justice against her abuser.

Neil Thompson had to be sentenced according to the rules in place when the crimes were committed. At that time, each offence carried a maximum sentence of two years, while the equivalent modern offences carry maximum sentences ranging from 10 years to life.

As well as being sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, Neil Thompson was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders register for life.
